Alabama Football: Nick Saban Offers Scholarship to 8th Grader
USA TODAY Sports

Nick Saban has offered a full-ride football scholarship to the University of Alabama to an eighth grader: Dylan Moses

Go ahead and reread that sentence again (yes, you did read it right the first time), and we'll try to logically break this down.

Either Saban has lost his mind, or this kid is about to be the LeBron James of football.

First, let's get to the details.

Moses was invited to Alabama's latest junior day, according to quotes from his father, Edward Moses Jr., via a report from Matt Scalici of AL.com:

We got the invitation to come to Alabama's Junior Day a few weeks ago and to be honest we were kind of surprised. When we got there, Coach (Burton) Burns took us around and introduced us to the entire coaching staff and they all seemed very interested in Dylan. They treated him like a five-star recruit.

Moses Jr. went on to say that Saban made his son an offer, per Scalici's report:

We met with Coach Saban after lunch and he talked to Dylan about his future and what he needed to do to achieve his potential as a student and as a football player. When he said he was offering Dylan a scholarship, we asked a lot of questions just to make sure we knew exactly what he meant. Coach Saban said the Alabama staff believes Dylan has a chance to be the best player in the country in the Class of 2017 and they were ready to offer him a scholarship. That's when the fireworks started going off in our heads.

Believe it or not, this is already Moses' second offer, per Scalici. LSU made an offer to the in-state recruit last summer, before eighth grade.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure I was still wearing velcro shoes in eighth grade, and I was more worried about collecting that rare Pokemon card than I was collecting scholarship offers from the biggest college football programs in the country. This is just an area of childhood where myself and Moses Jr. would simply not be able to relate.

In fact, he's going to be hard-pressed to find anybody who can relate to being the type of football phenom that he is.

Moses is only in eighth grade, but he already checks in at 6'1'', 215 pounds. Take one look at his highlights and you'll see that he's literally a man playing amongst little boys. I can't even seriously do a scouting report on this kid because it's simply not fair.

The fact that I considered it says a lot, though.

Here's all you need to know at this moment: He's in eighth grade and he's bigger than the ref. I'm not even sure if he's hit his growth spurt yet...

Should coaches be allowed to offer scholarships to kids that aren't even in high school yet?

Moses' potential is literally off the charts—to the point where it's immeasurable right now—so I really can't blame Saban for extending him an offer. If he continues to grow and dominate as a football player, there's a good chance we could be looking at the next big thing.

Why not get an early in with the 2017 recruit and start building somewhat of a connection and affinity for Alabama football?

In fact, let's just start sending planes filled with recruiters to elementary schools and middle schools all across the country and really do this thing right.

At this point, that's the direction that we're heading in.
